The piece
The Calice stool, designed by Ettore Sottsass for Kartell, is a sculptural piece that blends art and function. The designer
The rebel of design. Founder of the Memphis Group in the 80s in Milan, Sottsass broke the rules of functionalist "good taste." His importance lies in bringing emotion, color, and narrative back to furniture. He used plastic laminates, totemic shapes, and vibrant colors to question consumerism and Bauhaus rigidity. Knowing Sottsass is understanding Postmodern design; his pieces, like the Carlton bookcase, are functional sculptures.
