The piece
The KD28 table lamp by Joe Colombo for Kartell is a compact design icon first introduced in 1967, defined by its clean, geometric silhouette and timeless modern aesthetic. Reissued with contemporary materials, it features a satin-finished diffuser that casts a warm, enveloping light, while its recycled PMMA structure reflects a balance between innovation and sustainability. KD28 embodies Colombo’s vision of functional, forward-thinking design adapted to modern living.

The designer
Joe Colombo was a visionary who, more than designing furniture, designed the future. In the effervescence of the 60s, he understood that the world was shifting towards a more nomadic, dynamic, and technified lifestyle. His historical relevance lies in a total break from traditional static furniture; for Colombo, the home had to be a flexible "machine for living." He must be remembered for his mastery of new materials, especially injection-molded ABS plastic, which allowed him to create fluid, futuristic forms impossible with wood. But his greatest contribution was extreme modularity and the "living unit": rolling block kitchens or beds with integrated control stations. Colombo anticipated contemporary micro-housing and the need to optimize space, turning design into functional equipment. His legacy is the idea that the environment must adapt to the user, not the other way around.

The brand
Kartell is the brand that taught plastic to be noble. Founded in 1949, it revolutionized the market by applying industrial technology to polymeric materials, creating lightweight, colorful, and transparent design furniture. Under the direction of Claudio Luti and with designers like Philippe Starck, they created global hits like the Louis Ghost chair or the Componibili by Anna Castelli. Kartell is the symbol of democratic and glamorous "Made in Italy". Today, it leads with its "Kartell Loves the Planet" commitment, using recycled bioplastics. It is the ideal choice to add a touch of irony, modernity, and durability to any indoor or outdoor space.
