The designer
The rebel of design. Founder of the Memphis Group in the 80s in Milan, Sottsass broke the rules of functionalist "good taste." His importance lies in bringing emotion, color, and narrative back to furniture. He used plastic laminates, totemic shapes, and vibrant colors to question consumerism and Bauhaus rigidity. Knowing Sottsass is understanding Postmodern design; his pieces, like the Carlton bookcase, are functional sculptures. He is vital for understanding the aesthetic rupture of the 20th century, adding immense artistic and collectible value.

The brand
Kartell is the brand that taught plastic to be noble. Founded in 1949, it revolutionized the market by applying industrial technology to polymeric materials, creating lightweight, colorful, and transparent design furniture. Under the direction of Claudio Luti and with designers like Philippe Starck, they created global hits like the Louis Ghost chair or the Componibili by Anna Castelli.
